Environmentally safe cleaning products

An eco-conscious cleaning company is a rare find, but how do they go about sourcing their own ‘green' cleaning solutions? Well, like many budget-conscious, or environmentally aware households, they can make their own natural homemade cleaning products using cheap and easy to find ordinary products. The top 5 are: * Undiluted white vinegar * Baking soda * Rubbing alcohol * Lemon juice * Ammonia

Making your own natural homemade cleaning products isn't that difficult. Anyone who's watched "How Clean is your House", on Channel 4 TV, with Kim and Aggie, will know that white vinegar is one of the most versatile natural cleaning products around. You can also use white vinegar to clean windows, tiles, basically any shiny non-porous surface. It's also a natural deodorant to banish smells from floors, rather than simply covering them up with an artificial flowery fragrance. Rubbing alcohol can also be used to clean dirty windows, as well as ammonia in small amounts too.

Water and a splash of lemon juice, can be used as a mild natural bleaching agent for polishing up bathroom suites, and putting the shine back onto stainless steel kitchen sinks, as well as chrome taps. Lemon juice can dissolve grime easily and mixed with a small amount of olive oil makes an excellent gentle furniture polish. Cleaning vinyl flooring is easy with simple soap and water, rubbing out stubborn scuffs, with an eraser, or neat washing up liquid. Baking soda is a great alternative to bleached-filled scouring powders, and can be used to remove the scum rings from around a bath. As well as bringing out the shine in cutlery, you can soak stubborn areas in a baking soda and water mixture. Many people already use it to free blocked-up or slow-running drains.Natural homemade cleaning products won't harm your skin or your health and are kinder to the environment too.
