Cleaning a ceramic item.

News >>

• Machine-made, functional ceramic bowls and other pieces that do regular kitchen duty can be cleaned in the dishwasher.

• Handmade ceramics that are soiled should be cleaned by hand, using a soft cloth, mild washing-up liquid and water. Don't soak the item in water, which can lead to staining, especially if there are small cracks. Instead, dampen a cloth with soapy water, wipe away the dirt, rinse with a clean, damp cloth, and let the piece air-dry in a drainer to avoid the risk of it slipping through your fingers as you dry. To protect decorative ceramics on display in your home, use a dab of Blue Tack under your item to hold it firmly, yet invisibly in place. If someone bumps into the cable where it's displayed - or your pet brushes up against it - it won't go tumbling. The Blue Tack can be easily removed, yet will hold firmly enough that you have to twist the object to remove it.
